-Analysis of Article-

This article illustrates the constant fear Afghan Christians are in, and how Afghanistan government policy affects their everyday life. This article specifically focuses on a Christian convert who is in hiding from his relatives who want to kill him because of his conversion to Christianity. This article presents many facts illustrating how badly the Christian convert, Josef, is wanted for execution by his family and the Afghanistan government. The article tells how Josef’s brother-in-law Ibrahim offered a reporter for The New York Times $20,000 to tell him where Josef was hiding in order to kill him. This illustrates how much of a disgrace you are to Muslim families if you chose to convert to Christianity. The article also addresses how Christians in Afghanistan are often in hiding or on the run to find refuge. The article states while Josef was on the run, he, “was detained in Greece and deported from Germany, and he lived on the streets in Italy before he truly understood that there would be no happy ending in Europe, where his application for asylum has gone nowhere.” This illustrates how the Afghanistan government will not forgive converts and will continue to look for them until they receive punishment. This article promotes Afghanistan as the bad guy and Christians as victims of their malicious actions.

This article addresses the persecution of Christians in Afghanistan and how government rules have influenced the suffering Christians endure.
Afghanistan is an Islamic state by constitution, and are therefore hostile towards all other religions. Officially, Afghanistan is 99% Muslim, and there are no Christians in this state, except for military staff and non-governmental workers. However, Afghan Christians are in hiding and do not dare express their faith due to persecution.
Afghan Christians are suffering in many ways. Death is the only outcome for exposed Christians in Afghanistan. There is no mercy shown towards Christians and they will be killed no matter the circumstances. Some may be put in psychiatric hospitals as they are viewed as insane, and some may even have their houses destroyed. Either way, they are disposed of in the end.
Visible acts of Christian worship are extremely dangerous in Afghanistan. If religious change is noticed, converts are forced to relocate due to the strong influence of the Taliban and ISIS-affiliated groups.

-Analysis of Article-

This article covers the suffering of Christians in Afghanistan and illustrates the fear and pain they endure on a daily basis. This article draws attention to how political groups such as the Taliban and ISIS-affiliated groups influence much of the persecution of Christians.  The religious groups that are covered are Muslims and Christians. The argument presented in the article is that Christians are being unfairly persecuted in Afghanistan and that Christian worship there is prohibited. It is very easy to identify the facts the author used to promote his argument. The author provides the statistic that Afghanistan's population consists of 99% Muslims. This provides credibility to the authors argument that it is Muslim extremists who are doing almost all of the persecution of Christians in Afghanistan. Readers are given the impression that Muslims are the bad guy, due to their mass violence towards Christians, and Christians are the victims. This can stir much controversy as Muslims are persecuted across the world and many people in Westernized culture ignore the persecution of Christians. This makes it easy for readers to think that the author is being insensitive to the persecution of Muslims. However, both religious groups are persecuted. The author also presents the history of Taliban and ISIS- related groups, explaining their pasts of violence and continuation of violence with Christians today.  The topic of Christian Persecution in this article is understood as a problem that needs to be addressed and fixed.
